Based in the Robertson Wine Region, Silverthorn Wines is focused exclusively on the production of Cap Classique, where the terroir of rocky lime rich soil and shale lends itself to the art of sparkling wine making.
One of the premier producers of Cap Classique in South Africa, they are among only a handful of producers who have dedicated their expertise solely to the production of this elegant style of wine.
As such they are a proud member of the CC Association, an independent organisation that collectively supports and markets Cap Classique wines. They are also a member of the prestigious Cape WineMakers Guild.
Silverthorn Wines produces an exciting range of top end Méthode Cap Classique wines which have undergone a natural secondary fermentation in the bottle.
The Cap Classique offering
The story telling and imagery with each product that is released has become an important Silverthorn feature, connecting palates to their heritage, history and nature.
The River Dragon has a vibrant green hue with a fine twirling bead of bubbles and aromas of chamomile blossoms and thatch, complimented by subtle stone fruit and tropical notes.
The Green Man with its vibrant green/yellow hue and fine twirling bead of bubbles has aromas of baked apple and roasted almonds.
Jewel Box is light straw yellow with elegant fine bubbles and aromas of roasted almonds, marzipan, and subtle hints of strawberry and cherry compote, followed by zesty citrus nuances.
The Genie is the colour of bright onion skin and has aromas of an exotic bouquet of rose water & raspberries.
The Big Dog, a Cap Classique exclusively made for the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction – a blend of Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, reflecting distinctive citrus and chalky character, and delicate strawberry nuances.

Wine Tasting at Silverthorn Wines
John and Karen Loubser, owners of Silverthorn, host all the tastings themselves in their beautiful tasting room overlooking the Breede River and the Riviersonderend Mountains. Each experience is rich and personalised with captivating stories of myth and legend and deep insight into the process of Cap Classique making.
Open from Monday to Friday 12 to 3pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm, customers are invited to a wine tasting experience to remember. Booking is recommended.
