Nestled in the vibrant Baakens Valley district of Gqeberha, the Richmond Hill Brewing Company (RHBC) stands as one of South Africa’s top craft brewers and one of my personal favourite tap rooms.
Known for its award-winning beers, this brewery has gained a loyal following for more than just its exceptional brews. It has become a go-to venue for sports enthusiasts looking for the perfect place to catch the big game in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
The Best Rugby Gees
For sports fans, especially rugby enthusiasts, RHBC is a must-visit venue. The brewery is decked out with numerous large-screen TVs, offering excellent sound quality that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action.
I particularly enjoy watching the Springboks in action at RHBC. During matches, the taproom transforms into a sea of green and gold, with passionate fans donning their rugby attire, ready to cheer on South Africa’s finest.
The energy is palpable, with the crowd erupting in unison with every try, tackle, and conversion.
The staff at RHBC are fantastic and they have always ensured that my glass is never empty, delivering drinks swiftly so that I can stay focused on the game.
Whether you’re watching with friends or meeting new ones, the taproom and Chicky’s Yard is a great place to connect with fellow fans over a pint of expertly brewed beer.
Food and Wine Selections
RHBC’s taproom isn’t just about beer and sports; it also offers a delightful menu of food options to complement the experience.
The burgers are fantastic and better priced than just about any other restaurant you care to visit. Their snack menu, boerewors roles and waffle fries are just what I enjoy while exercising my vocal cords.
And if you’re in the mood for something other than beer, the adjacent Wine Shed is a fantastic spot to explore. Boasting one of the best selections of wines in the city, it’s the perfect stop for wine lovers looking to pair a game day meal with a glass of fine wine.
Grand Prix Viewing for Motorsport Fans
While RHBC is synonymous with rugby, it’s also a top spot for Formula 1 fans. The brewery attracts a devoted crowd of Grand Prix enthusiasts who gather to watch the races on the large screens, sharing in the thrill of each lap, pit stop, and podium finish.
The like-minded crowd and electric atmosphere make it an exciting place to follow the world’s most prestigious motorsport events.
