Richmond Hill Brewing Company (RHBC), who are famous for their vibrant taproom in Baakens Valley, Gqeberha and their award-winning brewery has recently expanded its footprint with the opening of a sophisticated new taproom in the suburb of Lorraine, Gqeberha.
RHBC has a storied history of accolades and recognition, most recently, they garnered significant acclaim at the African Beer Cup and in 2023 the won the award for Best Beer In Africa. Say no more!
The taproom in Baakens Valley is equally famous in their home city and known for its great vibe, excellent food and celebratory craft brewing events. I have written before that, in my experience, this is one of the best taprooms I have had the pleasure of visiting.
New look, same vibe
The new taproom in Lorraine maintains the vibrant and lively atmosphere that patrons have come to love from the original Baakens Valley taproom. However, it introduces a touch of sophistication with beautifully tiled floors, custom-made seating, and contemporary décor. The indoor garden theme, large screen TVs showcasing popular sporting events, and pulp fiction styled wallpaper are elements carried over from the original location, ensuring a sense of continuity and familiarity.
Regulars will be pleased to recognize some of the hardworking and friendly staff who have transitioned from the Baakens Valley taproom to the new Lorraine location.
The taproom offers RHBC’s famous delicious brews on tap, along with the familiar and popular range of Jane Doe’s and an assortment of spirits in the bar and coolers.
The food menu contains the same burgers that made the RHBC’s food shed a landmark destination for foodies too. Yip, the delicious Korean Fried Chicken Burger as well as their famous Beef Burger and Vegan Burgers are on offer. So too are the delectable Waffle Fries.
Niall Cook, the master brewer at RHBC, says “We opened their doors to the public on the 4th of June. Since then, we have been overwhelmed by the support from both existing and new patrons.”
