Lion's River Brewery IPA

India Pale Ale from Lion’s River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden in KZN

Set in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the Lion’s River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden has been creating some of the most in-demand craft beers since their first bottle hit the shelves.

This family-run brewery stands on a beautiful property so customers can take in tranquil views as they sip on one of Lion’s River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden’s brews.

The brewery is owned by Irish-born, Ronald McClelland; a lifelong lover of beer. His own father had a homebrew system and has travelled the world sampling beers and exploring breweries.

From a young age Ronald has been brewing beer and working in breweries, after locals sampled his first beer crafted in the homebrew system they immediately wanted him to sell it in restaurants and markets.

Sample Lion’s River Brewery India Pale Ale

Of the six different brews that Lion’s River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden produce, the team at Thirsty Traveler sampled their India Pale Ale at our annual Heritage Day Beer Tasting Evening.

Our taster and craft beer connoisseur, Graeme Lund, had this to say about the Ale; “I am a fan of this wonderful brewery and have sampled almost all their wares.  Most recently I tasted their India Pale Ale (IPA) which I found to be superb.

“This is a hoppy beer with 5.2% alcohol content and is served in a 440ml bottle.”

Interestingly, this IPA comes about as collaboration between Lion’s River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden and the Clockwork Brew House in Pietermaritzburg.

The website is still in the ‘brewing’ stages, but you may follow Lions River Craft Brewery and Beer Garden on Facebook and Instagram. Give them a call on 033 234 4432 or email macsas@mweb.co.za.
