Clarens is one of South Africa’s most picturesque towns thanks to its location in the foothills of the Maluti Mountains and to the town’s neat layout and great attractions.
One of my favourite places to visit in Clarens is the Clarens Brewery. Located on the town square and set amongst galleries, restaurants and shops, the Clarens Brewery is a local land mark.
Although the restaurant has a great vibe, the service is excellent and friendly and the food delicious it is the beer that is my main attraction.
The bar counter is dominated by the beer taps all clearly marked with their standard brews, namely the Blonde, Indian Pale Ale, Weiss, English Ale, Stout and Red.
If you are a first time visitor to the pub then I suggest you order one of their tasting paddles that come with a short glass of their four premium brews.
My personal favourite is the Clarens Red. This is a Red Ale that was first made popular in the American west but, thanks to its toasty and fruity flavour, has spread around the world and Clarens Brewery do this brew proud.
The team at Clarens Brewery share an incredible knowledge of different beer and cider brewing techniques as well as having an innovative approach to creating new and exciting flavours.
A new addition to their offerings is their ‘Invitational Tap’. They have dedicated a tap to support and showcase other South African micro brewery’s beers. These beers are small batch beers and continuously change
In the tradition of true craft brewers, the master brewers create some wonderful seasonal beers that can be sampled and purchased when in stock.
There is also a variety of G+Ts on tap and G+T taste boards, as well as a range of local ciders.
The Brewery offers delicious contemporary pub style food, with an expansive menu consisting of a variety of tasty dishes cooked with their beers as well as a beer pairing suggestion for each dish.
Some of the mouth-watering favourites include brew pub bites like beer marinated chicken wings, the best home-made craft burgers, beer battered fish and chips, Ale braised lamb shanks, cheese cake with a cherry gin coulis and a Mexican churros stout chocolate brownie.
Clarens Brewery Functions and Events
The Brewery offers a mobile service and will set up taps of beer, cider and G+Ts at any event within a thirty-kilometre radius. This is a great service for weddings, parties or sporting events and they will tailor make a package for your requirements.
Their products may be purchased at their tap room or on line and they will courier to you, nationwide.
Clarens Brewery’s opening hours are Monday to Thursday 10.00 – 19.00, Fridays and Saturdays 10.00 – 22.00, and Sundays 10.00 – 18.00.
