Mont Rochelle appoints Arek Witadzek as Executive Head Chef

Virgin Limited Edition’s South African Hotel & Mountain Vineyard Mont Rochelle, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Arek Witadzek as its new Executive Head Chef.

Arek joins the team at Mont Rochelle after holding the position of Executive Head Chef at the award-winning five-star Relais and Chateaux property – Asara Wine Estate & Hotel in Stellenbosch. Arek hopes to bring his passion for combining South African dishes with a twist of European classic cuisine to the kitchen at Mont Rochelle.

James Basson, Estate Manager of Mont Rochelle, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Arek to the Mont Rochelle and Virgin Limited Edition family. He has already settled in very well and I have no doubt our guests are in for a real treat with his culinary delights.”

Born and raised in the southern part of Wielkopolska province in a small picturesque village called Rydzyna in Poland, Arek’s passion for food started at a young age. Growing up he grew his own vegetables and spent much of his time learning to cook from his grandmother.

After holding several positions and completing his chef’s training, he left Poland for the UK where he stayed for four years before making the move to South Africa permanently in 2009.

Commenting on his appointment, Arek Witadzek, Executive Head Chef, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to join Mont Rochelle and its wonderful team. I’m truly passionate about creating a selection of menus that showcase the diverse flavours of South Africa while complementing the incredible views that are still taking my breath away on a daily basis.”

Miko Restaurant is Mont Rochelle’s flagship restaurant with impeccable 180-degree views over the Franschhoek valley and a stunning terrace surrounded by glass doors, giving guests the feeling of an alfresco dining experience all year round. Miko’s cuisine is best described as a taster to South African favourites with a twist. Each dish tells a story, meaning guests can experience a little slice of South African memories.

The Country Kitchen is Mont Rochelle’s informal restaurant adjacent to the wine cellar, an ideal spot for light lunch. Miko Restaurant and Country Kitchen are open to hotel guests and casual lunch diners at Country Kitchen seven days a week.
