World Class Gins Inspired by Nature – Cape Town Gin Company

Established in 2015, Cape Town Gin Company produces four different delicious gins.

Craig van der Venter, the founder of the company, is proudly South African and has a love for Cape Town in particular.

He says that each gin has a uniquely local flavour which reflects the essence and biodiversity of the region from which it comes, and is a celebration of South Africa’s beauty, heritage, diversity and cultures.

Cape Town Gins

As with all good quality spirits I prefer to drink them neat or on the rocks or, if mixed into a refreshing cooler, then I use a small amount of mix and top it off with soda water and ice so as not to lose the unique tastes that the distiller has laboured to create.

My gin of choice is a London style dry gin and the Cape Town Classic Dry Gin is just up my alley.  It is made with classical Juniper but with a touch of dried orange peel, coriander, star anise, orris root, cardamom and cassia bark and makes a great G&T.

I recently tried the Cape Town Pink Lady Gin which is infused with rose geranium and a hint of rose water. The floral nose is fantastic, and the palate has plenty of Turkish Delight. What a happy gin – a nose that reminds me of my granny’s rose garden and the Turkish Delight was what she would share with me on special occasions.

The best way I found to enjoy the Pink Lady is with a double tot topped off with a little soda water and sprig of mint.  This way you have a refreshing beverage with all the best flavours preserved.

Cape Town Rooibos Gin is infused with organic, hand-picked rooibos to extract the essence of this indigenous plant from the Cedarberg region.  It has a beautiful rich, earthy spiced flavour, is red in colour and is best paired with a twist of orange or a hint of ginger.

Cape Town Black Rhino Gin is a robust gin made in the classic style and infused with Renosterbos and buchu.  The brilliant olive green colour, and with a slightly sweeter taste has hints of citrus, pepper and liquorice, and is best enjoyed neat on ice or in a cocktail with Indian tonic water, and garnished with a wedge of fresh lime and peppercorns.
