Brewhogs is located off Dytchley Road, Kyalami and they brew six different types of beer and distil a single malt Whiskey too.
Master Brewer at Brewhogs, Danie Odendaal, says; “We only brew our beers from the best malted barley, hops, yeast and water. Our beers are also naturally filtered at 0°Cs with-out the use of finings. Our brews are also unpasteurized so that you can taste the full flavor every time!”
Origins of Brewhogs brewery
The brewing equipment was originally owned by SAB and was located at Gold Reef City. It was in fact the original Charles Glass Micro Brewery that formed part of the Heritage Brewery next to Barney’s Tavern.
In 1993 it moved to SAB’s World of Beer in Newtown and in 2013 it was acquired by Brewhogs and moved to Kyalami.
Brewhogs are currently able to brew 44 000 liters a month using this equipment.
What’s on offer at Brewhogs
Brewhogs have created something to suite all tastes. Perhaps the most unusual of their brews is the Firedrake Real Ginger Beer. This is the one brew that has an additive, namely ginger and the result is an authentic ginger beer with 4.5% ABV.
There are two IPA’s, both with 5%ABV. The No. 3 Black IPA has complex flavors from the darkly roasted malt and its very distinctive hops. The No. 4 IPA is a less complex, medium bodied IPA with fruit-cocktail flavors.
The 2Duck Blonde is a clear and dry session ale with a fruity character. The No. 1 Premium Pilsner and No. 2 Red Lager are both easy drinking with a 4% and 5% ABV respectively. The Pilsner, as one would expect, has a great Saaz hop flavor and the Red Lager is brewed in the old steam style from five different malts.
Beer tasting
There is an outside tasting area next to a small lake that is home to a few ducks, hence the derivation for the 2 Duck Blonde!
