Onoma Private Cellar is a family owned and operated boutique winery located on Felicia Farm in Stellenbosch.
The farm was purchased by the Yiannakis family in 1999 with the focus on classic Greek farming and wine making traditions that have been passed on from father to son for generations.
After the untimely death of his father, Blaise Yiannakis aptly selected the wines which were maturing in barrels at the time to be Onoma Private Cellar’s hallmark release.
The Greek name Onoma means reputation, and was selected in honour of his father’s legacy.
The terroir at Onoma is perfect for the production of the varietals they have selected, namely Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
Blaise’s brief to his wine maker, Matthew van Heerden, was to create classic unfussy wines, allowing the quality of the grapes to shine through.
Onoma Award Winning Wines
In the short period of time that Onoma has been producing wines, they have won a number of prestigious gold and double gold Michelangelo and Platter awards.
Onoma limit their production by selecting only the best vintages.
They are in the process of developing a winery with bespoke wine blending. Visitors will be offered the opportunity to blend their own unique wine which will be bottled and labelled exclusively for them.
Onoma Wines may be purchased on line, with free delivery in Johannesburg and Cape Town, or at selected wine merchants.
Accommodation at Onoma Private Cellar
Hosted by Blaise Yiannakis, Onoma offers accommodation in his magnificent villa set on a wine estate.
The elegant décor is white with modern clean lines and with touches of bright colour in the rugs and magnificent art works.
The villa can accommodate six guests in three luxurious ensuite air-conditioned bedrooms.
The villa boasts, among many rooms, a gourmet kitchen, a lounge, a formal dining room, a library and a spacious terrace overlooking the vines and distant mountains.
Everything about this villa is spacious, open, tasteful and luxurious.
